An existing firmware update mechanism provided support for one product only and had no logging. A better remote firmware update and control system was required that would work over 2G/3G/4G and local radio links, with minimal power consumption and data rates. The technical requirements and physical environment were challenging and power can be lost at any time.
A complete new system was developed with several software components from bootloader to relay to management website. Error handling and bandwidth usage required careful consideration.
Total reliability was achieved for thousands of devices in the field with all parameters being reported.
This client develops and manufactures military batteries, chargers and related technologies with outdoor and ruggedised environmental requirements.
Their Caravel multi-chemistry charger needed some embedded software developed quickly which included complex battery charging algorithms for various different cell chemistries including Lithium ion. Production testing needed to be completed within a three month timescale and all technical issues resolved.
Shattered Silicon were able to bring extensive knowledge of battery technology to bear. Various large and small battery management have been developed over many years including previous military and electric automotive. Algorithms were tested simultaneously on multiple units.
A systematic approach to production testing completed the task – gaining confidence first in the input/output control elements of the electronics before the more complex application software was evaluated.
Reliability was achieved and the product went into production on time.
